My blog to inspire other designer to dream it, create it & live it!

Welcome to my blog.

I write because I was afraid to show my weakness in understanding the art of writing. For as long as I can remember, I struggled with learning to comprehend and express my thoughts through words. Growing up with ADHD and dyslexia, I struggled immensely and often gave up. As a visual designer, I could dodge this skill for a long time, but now I have become more confident in my abilities, and I have a lot to say. Follow along my journey, and I hope you do something courageous for yourself.

HOW TO CREATE A SPACE THAT WORKS FOR YOU

CREATIVE MAKEOVER

A SNEAK PEEK BEHIND THE PROCESS

From inspiring studios, craft rooms, and ideation stations, I wanted to share how to convert my extra bedroom into a creative space. Creative spaces are the perfect area to combine the benefits of working remotely and helping you find the peferect balance between what's essential to you and. your family needs.

Before remote working, I used my spare bedroom as an office. The best advice I can give anyone is to define the space. When I wasn't fully vested in what this space looked like, I would use it as more of a storage or dumping station. When designing a space, consider empathy and how you will use it. I recommend listing your challenges with the space and coming up with solution. Below is how I solved how to create the dream space to ignite my creative juices while letting my family use it.

CHALLENGES:

  • Shared space with my husband

  • Storage Solutions for art supplies and crafts

  • Lacking Personality

  • Small Space

BEFORE IMAGES:

I can’t believe I’m sharing these pictures, but it’s not conducive to exemplary work. I would dread going to my office because it was so overwhelming.

Before

Of course, I had a small budget to enhance this space, but the rest will come if you focus on your challenges. First, I had to solve the organizational issues or the lack of organization. Here's a complete list of the item in my space.

Party of 2

This IKEA desk was the most expensive part of this space, but well worth it. It houses all my art supplies and a room for my husband to work. My desk faces the wall, so I can do Zoom calls, and my husband can use the other space. I love the chairs that I found at Walmart. Yes, you get two of them for $300!

Picking Paint Color

Now it’s on to the paint color. When looking for paint colors, I always check out Pinterest to see what industry experts are suggesting. (I recommend Studio Mcgee)  I decided to go with Sherwin-Williams paint, knowing that choosing a dark color would greatly contrast my white furniture. In the search bar, I typed in the best dark paint color and fell in love with SW 7069 Iron Ore. I also chose a light fixture from Overstock.com that was bright enough at night. (Of course, I’m most creative at midnight!)

Here are a few other dark paint colors I highly recommend:

It is a dark, inky, charcoal gray paint color.

I hope this post inspired you to create your ideal space. Finally, I can do it all in the space; the best part is my family can enjoy my office. Feel free to ask me anything about the space.
